The rate at which the dreaded Islamic insurgent sect, Boko Haram, go to recruit, brainwash and intimidate young females into becoming suicide bombers, is quite alarming and calls for serious attention.
This call becomes necessary when the state security service announced the arrest of a 10-year-old girl named Hadiza Musa, who was traveling with a group of terrorists in Katsina State.
The little girl was found to have an explosive belt wound around her and when she was nabbed, she reportedly confessed that she was forced to forced to strap the belt by some men.
According to the Director General of the National Information Center, Mr. Mike Omeri, the young Hadiza Umar was arrested in company of two other people, a man and an 18 year old girl who is suspected to be a groomed suicide bomber as well.
Briefing newsmen on the capture, Mike Omeri had this to say:
Security forces on Tuesday, July 29, at about 10 pm along Zaria Road, Tudun Wada of Funtua Metropolis, Katsina State, arrested three suspects believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
The three suspects consisted a male named Iliya Haliru, and two females, Zainab Musa, 18, and Hadiza Musa, 10. The three suspects were arrested in a Honda CRV. When they were directed to disembark for security check, 10-year-old Hadiza was discovered to have been strapped with an explosive belt.
And immediately, Iliya and Zainab made attempt to escape with the car but were later blocked by other concerned Nigerians and subsequently arrested. The police successfully unstrapped the explosive.
In the past few days, there has been cases of young females blowing up themselves and killing scores of Nigerians in apparent suicide bombings.
How did we get to this point where kids are used as suicide bombers?
